Albert Coppersmith — research correction
Status: rejected (this person was a misidentification)
What happened
Earlier records inferred an “Albert Coppersmith” born ~1911 as a son of Frank Joseph Coppersmith and Odile Clemens Barette, based on a FamilySearch entry with minimal data and a plausible-seeming birth year between Claude (1907) and Geraldine (1913).
Correction
Odile Coppersmith’s December 1972 obituary definitively lists Frank and Odile’s five children:
“Survivors are three sons, William, Claude and Harold, all of Green Bay; two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Geraldine) La Roche, Sturgeon Bay; Mrs. Bernard (Agnes) Putman, Green Bay…”
The “Albert” in the family was Albert La Roche — Geraldine’s husband (Frank and Odile’s son-in-law), living in Sturgeon Bay. He was misclassified as a Coppersmith son in some derivative records.
Action taken
- Removed Albert from
children:arrays of Frank Joseph Coppersmith and Odile Clemens Barette. - This record retained as a documentation of the correction so the misidentification doesn’t re-enter the archive on future imports.
Where the real Albert lives
A new record for Albert La Roche (m. Geraldine Coppersmith, Sturgeon Bay) can be created if/when his line warrants it. He’s a son-in-law, not a direct ancestor.
