Hortence Meuron
Lifespan: 1818 — ca 1880
Summary
Younger sister of Désirée Juliana Meuron (1815–1891) — the only known sibling of our direct-line ancestor. Born 1818 in Mélin to Pierre Joseph Meuron (1789–1818) and Anne Marie Barbe Logis (1791–ca 1858). May have been born posthumously — Pierre died February 22, 1818; if Hortence was born after that date, she never met her father. Raised by their widowed mother alongside Désirée.
Marriage and descendants unknown. Whether she emigrated to Wisconsin with Désirée’s family + their widowed mother in March 1856 (age 38) or stayed in Belgium is unresolved. Died around 1880, eleven years before Désirée.

Research Notes
- Emigration thread: if Anne Marie Barbe came to Wisconsin in 1856 (per MyHeritage), did she bring Hortence too? Hortence would have been 38 — old enough to stay, but a widowed mother might bring all unmarried daughters with her. Worth checking Wisconsin Walloon-area records for any “Hortense Meuron” or “Hortense Coppersmith” (married name) entry.
