Born in Iberville, Quebec, Canada to Isaac Surprenant (1816–1917) and Julie Guyette (1831–1899). Also known as Laura Surprise. French-Canadian emigrant. Married Peter Young on April 30, 1866 in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Died April 25, 1904 in Maple Creek, Outagamie County, Wisconsin at age 54. Buried at St Mary Cemetery, Bear Creek — same cemetery as husband Peter.
Died in Maple Creek — the same community where her granddaughter Marie Ellen Bodoh would be born two years later (1906). Mary Young was 15 when her mother died. Her father Isaac lived to age 100 (d. 1917).
